Immune Boosting Vitamins You Should Be Taking!

As a nurse and self proclaimed health nut, I have been taking my immunity very seriously during this time of COVID-19. Whether you are scared, calm, or somewhere in between, it’s never a bad idea to give your immunity a boost! Today I’m talking about the vitamin I’m taking as well as the vitamins I’m giving my family to keep us healthy!

Adults

First thing’s first, I always take a multivitamin. Every. Single. Day. I personally like this one because it also has amino acids for brain function and focus. I have always taken vitamins to help me focus, it’s such a great nonprescription alternative to other medications on the market! I got mine from Thrive Market but I found it for sale HERE! Totally worth it in my opinion!)

I also have been taking a vitamin for adrenal health. This deserves it’s own post so I won’t get into too much detail but YALL, if you have any stress AT ALL, especially during this time of uncertainty, you need to add this specific supplement into your daily routine. This brand specifically has helped me so much, it’s INSANE. Even my husband can tell when I don’t take it one day. It’s NIGHT AND DAY y’all. Do yourself (and your family) a favor and buy this right now. I’ve also been taking daily magnesium in the evenings to help me wind down and relax and I’ve seen a huge change!

OK now for add-ons vitamins for immune support.

  • Vitamin C is one of the biggest immune system boosters of all. In fact, a lack of vitamin C can even make you more prone to getting sick. Foods rich in vitamin C include oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, strawberries, bell peppers, spinach, kale and broccoli. Daily intake of vitamin C is essential for good health because your body doesn’t produce or store it. You can choose a pill, chewable tablet, gummy, or drink add-on. It really doesn’t matter how you consume it, BUT YOU NEED TO BE CONSUMING IT RIGHT NOW. (And no, a daily mimosa doesn’t cut it…unfortunately) Aim for around 1,000mg of vitamin C per day right now, but make sure not to go above 2,000mg.
  • Zinc can be found in oysters, crab, lean meats and poultry, baked beans (skip the kind with added sugar), yogurt and chickpeas. Zinc appears to help slow down the immune response and control inflammation in your body. Fortunately, if you are drinking a drink add-on of Vitamin C you might be getting zinc as well! Be sure to read the labels.
  • Probiotics are great for your gut. And we all know that our immune system is strongly effected by our gut health! If you aren’t taking a probiotic right now, I would go ahead and start! This is the one I take!

So to recap, here is a condensed list of the exact vitamins I’m taking right now!

Kids (ages 4+)

For the kids, I have been giving them chewy or gummy vitamins so they are able to take them! I’ve been giving them a complete multivitamin + probiotic as well as a complete immunity gummy with Elderberry, Zinc, Vitamin C and Vitamin D. I also give them extra elderberry because WHY NOT.

Baby + Toddler

For Babies, you can add a liquid multivitamin into their daily routine for some extra support as well as iron!

For Livie (toddler) I added in this chewy multivitamin specifically for toddlers! She thinks it’s candy and always looks forward to eating it. For vitamin C, I have been trying to add in foods with vitamin C into her diet. Oranges, strawberries, bell peppers, spinach, broccoli, etc.
